Esprit Holdings Limited comes with numerous stores in over 40 countries. In 1968 the story of this company started, when Susie und Douglas Tompkins drove through California to sell their self-made clothes. So the company “Plain Jane Dress Co.” was born. In 1971 the company “Esprit de Corporation” was founded. The founder Douglas Tompkins left the company and after the divorce, there were three more owners besides Susie Douglas.
In the seventies, the company got its characteristic „E“ as a logo. In 1998 a new young line was established, edc by Esprit, which is especially created for young women, who orientate themselves on modern trends, which are shown on several music-channels. Annually, 12 collections come on the market, covering all ranges from furniture to fashion.
Actually there are 10 product groups, which do not only limit to clothes, but also include accessories like watches, handbags and umbrellas. In 2002, Esprit turned its attention on the USA and extended its presence on the American market, but Germany is still the main business market. Esprit’s ambition is to offer actual fashion trends at affordable prices on the market. A team of international designers works on the realisation of the actual trends and creates high quality luxury at low prices. The company motto “It's an attitude, not an age“ is concise and marks the intention of the company to offer fashion and accessories for all generations.
